terms
these terms cover the type me it app for macos and the website at typeme.it. by downloading or using the app you agree to them. if you do not agree, do not use the app.
the app
type me it is a dictation tool for macos 26 or newer on apple silicon. you hold the fn key, speak, and the words are typed where your cursor is. transcription happens on your mac. the privacy page describes what the app stores and the two servers it talks to.
licence
the app is free to download and use, for personal or commercial purposes, on any mac you own or control. you may not sell the app, present it as your own, or remove its identifying marks. the source code is published on github and is governed by whatever licence accompanies it there; where that licence grants you more than these terms, the licence wins.
updates
the app checks for updates through the sparkle framework and offers to install them. updates come from the app's github releases and are signed, so the app will only install an update that was published by the author. you can turn automatic checks off in settings. old versions may stop working with newer versions of macos, and there is no promise to keep supporting them.
third-party components
the app is built on components with their own terms, which apply alongside these.
- parakeet, the speech model by nvidia, released under the cc-by-4.0 licence and downloaded during onboarding.
- transcribe.cpp, which runs the model.
- sparkle, which handles updates, under the mit licence.
- apple intelligence, apple's on-device model, which the app uses through the foundationmodels framework when you turn it on. apple's terms for that feature apply.
the learning and insights code is a port of handy's, used under its licence.
acceptable use
use the app only where you have the right to dictate and to type the resulting text. do not use it to record people without their knowledge where the law requires consent. the app types into whatever field has focus, and you are responsible for what ends up where.
accuracy
speech recognition makes mistakes. apple intelligence can rewrite a sentence in a way you did not mean. the app shows you what it typed and keeps a history so you can check, but you are responsible for reading what was typed before you rely on it, send it or submit it.
no warranty
the app and the site are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. they may contain bugs and may stop working.
limitation of liability
to the fullest extent the law allows, the author is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the app or the site, including lost data, lost text, text typed into the wrong place, and any indirect or consequential loss. where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, which is nothing.
the website
typeme.it exists to hand you the download. its content may be used to describe or link to the app. the puff drawing and the type me it name are the author's.
changes
these terms may change. the date at the top says when they last did, and the history of this page is in the public repository. continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
governing law
these terms are governed by the law of england and wales, and disputes go to its courts.
